Canvas stretching is on the schedule for My Creative Space this afternoon. But chances are I will postpone it so I can come visit your space if you’re playing along. Thanks to Kirsty for providing the gathering ground for one of the most enjoyable diversions of the week!
Are you interested in a proper stretching tutorial? Or knowing why I stretch my own canvases, when I could pick them up ready made from the art supply shop?
Yes I'm very curious as to why you stretch your own canvases! Do you buy the materials to do so from the art shop where you could buy them ready made? Do you make the frames yourself? (love the black and white photos by the way!)
ReplyDeletei'm intrigued! what's the spray for?
ReplyDeleteit's admirable that you do it yourself ~ i guess you can get the proportions that you are after and know the quality will be great. love to know your reasons.
ReplyDeleteyup the packing etc is arduous and i am getting excited now ~ i was lucky the move was pretty local so i didn't have to get extreme about the packing {back of the car with kid gloves!!}.
I am impressed...I'm definitely a "buy it already stretched" canvas girl...luckily, I live near several good art stores and stock up during sales!
ReplyDeleteWould love to see the tutorial though!
I would love to know why?
ReplyDeleteReminds me of my uni days!! But why when they are so cheap now? Do you like the process?
ReplyDeleteI am lousy doing that, so I buy them... But I have a friend who does that himself, because he has large paintings and wants to have very thick frame. You?
ReplyDeleteI wanna know what the spraying is for???
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing what becomes of this canvas.
impressed. the photos are great
ReplyDeleteme too! I'd like to know why you stretch your own.
ReplyDeleteoh very cool post today. I have a friend that prints photographs and then I have paid to have a couple stretched for me but love the photo-instructions on how I could do it myself. Do you buy the frame or have them laying around?
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog..now I need to get back to the knitting :)
Tina
i am curious why you do them yourself? my friend told me why she did it...years ago- but i've forgotten her explanation. her dad helped her do hers.
ReplyDeletei'm sure lot's of painters would be interested in a tutorial! :)
I don't paint, but I would be interested to know why you make your own - I'mm assuming you spray it so that it shrinks, to make it really tight?
ReplyDeleteYes and yes! Not that I'll be actually doing anything in the next 4 weeks (and beyond for who knows how long), but interested to see how and why. : ) Kim
ReplyDeleteExcellent tutorial on streching canvases. Thanks for sharing. I nominated you an award on my blog.
ReplyDeleteHugs
I found you through Kelly's Art Journaling. I too am curious about the spray. I've stretched my own canvas plenty of times, and can't remember adding that step. So whats the secret?!
ReplyDeleteHa! I just said to Ms L, I wonder why you would stretch your own canvases and I'd love to know how to do that, and then I read the end of your post. So that's a YES and YES from me.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tutorial! I would love to know what you are spraying it with. Btw, I think it adds a little something more to each painting knowing that the artist has stretched the canvas themselves...that little extra effort :)
