I fancied a round one, I can’t read a pattern so I thought I would just take my limited granny square experience and wing it. How hard could it be? I just wouldn’t do corners and go round and round. Well it started to curl up at the edges so I added some extra stitches. Then it got pretty wobbly and I thought I might fix it by not putting so many extra stitches. Anyway this is the result, may I present to you “The Jelly Fish Wash Cloth” It’s very "original" but I love it!
Then I had the crochet bug, I found this tutorial and decided to give this little basket a go with the lovely cotton yarn that Anka sent me as part of my pin cushion gift. It is so fabulous! I am pretty chuffed at how my crochet skills have taken off in one week.
Next I made a crochet basket from twine (I have completed it since the photo shoot) and now I am working on another wash cloth. All I have to do is learn to read a pattern, I have a hankering for making myself a cardi (not that I am getting ahead of myself!!).
I have still been painting too, I just haven’t had the energy for oils, but I have been dabbling with some little water coloured sketches. The first one Peacock Pod sold the day I posted it, which had me doing a little happy dance. This is the second in the series Peacock Puff, I am liking this series, I think there will be more…..

I gotta say I'm loving the Peacock series myself! And go you with the crochet! My Mum is the absolute crochet Queen, so when I've tried to learn from her I feel mighty inadequate!

ReplyDeleteI love your jelly fish wash cloth! And the baskets are amazing. I love the idea of crocheting with twine. Very cool. Your painting is gorgeous too. I'm not surprised the first one sold so quickly.
ReplyDeleteHi there, your crochet looks great! I think that we are either knitters or crocheters (if that's a word), and I am definitely a knitter so i always am impressed with hookers, as some people call themselves.....
ReplyDeleteLove the little baskets! Very cute!!
ReplyDeleteI really like the way the wash cloth turned out, even if it wasn't intentional. Those baskets are lovely too.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it a great feeling when you get the hang of something so quickly, or pick up from where you left off without a hitch? Love the bowls, and the cloth, beautiful work xo
ReplyDeleteIsn't crochet so much faster than knitting. I love my crochet dishcloths, especially since I can whip up a couple in an evening.
ReplyDeleteLove that wee basket, very very cute.
You have been having a very successful and creative week! I love the little crochet baskets, I wish I could crochet! A crochet cardi would be excellent, try a childs one first. Being smaller it will take less time to figure out if you can do it. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on selling your illustration too, it is very lovely!
ReplyDeleteYou have been a busy bee! All this crocheting makes me want to learn all the more. That little basket is just the cutest!
ReplyDeleteYour crochet is awesome. Mega ace! I've been wanting to make a basket for ages. It is listed on my first post of the year as something I want to achieve in 2010 - thanks heaps for sharing the tutorial. YAY!

ReplyDeleteWow. Glad to see you have been multi-creating other than just painting of late, Kylie! Good on you! :)
I miss our good old time and the whole MCS' participation altogether. Hope all is well at your funky town! :)
you are a busy gal. love the baskets and the twine is an ace idea
ReplyDeleteOh both wee baskets are so cute - and without a pattern!
ReplyDeleteThe book I was talking about in my post is Stitch & Bitch Crochet - it has helped me to at the very least understand a simple pattern... and make a flat circle. I had a VERY similar thing going on to your funky washcloth before I figured it out!
I love your jelly fish wash cloth - very funky! Your baskets look fab too. Good job with the crochet.
ReplyDeleteI love the washcloth, you should check out Google for Hyperbolic crochet...its amazing! I love the twine basket as well. Don't go too thick with the idea as i did make a sisal basket that looked fab and I enjoyed making but i had a sore joint in my little finger for weeks afterwards. If you find a better way to use the heavy stuff let me know :-)
ReplyDeletelOVE the jellyfish washcloth! It's ingenious really.
ReplyDeleteand yea for your sale. Very pretty :)
Love your crocheting! I love the little button basket - just your colour!
