Playing with colour...
Decision made...
What a mess...
But it’s all worth it!

Do you have a favourite tree? I do, he is a grand and towering gum tree and he stands on top of a very special little mountain, which sadly, is no longer ours. The tree’s name is Ernest and I give him a pat or sometimes a hug whenever we meet. Our special little mountain is park land now, so hopefully he will out live me in safety and serenity.
This isn’t a portrait of Ernest, he is fortunate enough to stand amongst many other splendid trees, but thinking of how special trees are made me think of him. I didn’t expect the tears that are now falling, I think the loss of our mountain paradise is going to hurt for many more years.
He who plants a tree, plants a hope.
- Lucy Larcom, Plant a Tree

That's why I love you Kylie, because you're a 'bit of a hippy' at heart, like me. I really like the simple contours of this painting, the strong colour and the deliberate fat brush strokes. I'm sorry you're feeling sad but glad you have such talent to help deal with these emotions.
ReplyDeleteLove this painting Kylie! The cloudy weather is sure helping the creative flow :-)

Very Van Gogh! :-)
ReplyDeleteThe tree looks very, very nice, even if he is all alone on the hill.
ReplyDeleteGreat work!
trees seem to play out in metaphors in my life...
ReplyDeletebeautiful work! popping in to say "hi" from the Flying Lessons e-course.-Robin
Gum trees are my favourite too. In my old house, I just had to look outside the kitchen door to see one. It somehow reminded me of 'home'.... that's one of the things I really miss.
